Feb. 14, 2015
Wynona Chastain completed her journey in this life on Saturday, the 14th of February, 2015, at the age of 98 years. Mrs. Chastain had been a resident of Waxahachie for 40 years, moving here with her husband, Jack, from Dallas. They built their home in the country where they loved to entertain friends and family. It was always a treat to be invited to one of Jack and Wynona’s picnics. Mrs. Chastain loved to entertain and her guests never knew if she would be dancing the Charleston for them or jumping out of a very large birthday cake.
Mrs. Chastain was born on Sept. 25, 1916, in Hillsboro and spent her younger years in Hillsboro and Peoria. She was a hairdresser and loved to tell stories about giving “finger waves” as an eleven year old girl. She continued as a hairdresser until she retired six years ago, owning “Magic Mirror Coiffures” in Dallas and later “Northgate Hair Fashions” in Waxahachie. She also worked at the Hair Time Salon.
Mrs. Chastain is survived by her daughters, Connie Beam of Waxahachie and Janet Herbold (Steve Herbold) of Duncanville. She is also survived by her sister, Wanda Sell, of La Conner, Washington, 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Loyf David and Leona Bearden Inmon, brothers, Preston Inmon, W.C. Inmon, Kenneth Inmon and Weldon Inmon, sisters Dorothy Sawyers and Marilyn McRae, son-in-law, Jim Beam and grandson, Wesley Beam,.
A lifetime member of the Church of Christ, Mrs. Chastain has been a member of the Brown Street Church of Christ (formerly College Street Church of Christ) since moving to Ellis County in 1975.
The family is especially grateful to Dr. John Compton, Bristol Hospice (formerly Lighted Pathways) and Covenant Place for their excellent care of Mrs. Chastain during her illness
A visitation for Mrs. Chastain will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m., both at the Brown Street Church of Christ, 2471 Brown Street in Waxahachie.
