Friday Book Club

Friday Book Club will meet in the home of Carol Farrar, Feb. 13, 2015, 10 a.m. for coffee and 10:30 a.m. for book review. Dr. Lurline Morrow will be reviewing “Rage for Fame,” by Sylvia Morris. It is the bio of Clare Boothe Luce.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary bake sale

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary is having a Bake Sale on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. It will be held at their Post at 1405 Interstate 35E in Waxahachie. There will be home made cakes, cookies, pies, etc. with a Valentine theme. The public is welcome.

Nature Walk at Bullard Heights

Ellis & Navarro Counties Indian Trail Chapter – Texas Master Naturalist are hosting a late-winter guided Nature Walk. The guided walk is approximately quarter-mile long and will last approximately 1 hour. Wear warm and comfortable clothing with outdoor shoes or boots and bring your drinking water. Learn to identify trees, birds and some flowers in their winter environment. This Program is free and open to the Public including children with a parent or guardian.

Gingerbread House Chili Cook-Off and Barn Dance

The 14th annual Chili Cook-Off and Barn Dance benefiting the Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center (Gingerbread House) kicks off Friday and continues through Sunday at the Ellis County Youth Expo Center, located on North Highway 287 Bypass next to the Cowboy Church.

The CASI sanctioned chili cook-off opens at 10 a.m. Friday and continues Saturday and Sunday. The chili cook-off schedule includes:

Friday (gates open at 10 a.m.)

CASI Chili (grind only) — $18 entry fee

Saturday (gates open at 8 a.m.)

CASI Chili (grind only) — $20 entry fee

Local Chili — $16 entry fee

50/50 Beans — $10 entry fee

Junior (CASI Rules) — $10 entry fee

Sunday (gates open at 8 a.m.

CASI Chili (grind only) — $18 entry fee

There is free admission to the public for all chili cook-offs and judges are still needed for Friday and Sunday events (inquire at the gate about being a judge).

The event also includes the annual barn dance from 6:30 to midnight Saturday with music provided this year by The Marshall Argovitz Experience. General admission to the barn dance is $10 per person and general admission including a prime rib dinner is $30 per person.

The event also includes a silent auction on Saturday evening, with auction bids closing at 10 p.m.

Blood drive Saturday

Eta Omega will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 at 505 North Highway 77 in Waxahachie. For more information, contact Patti Junkin at 972-935-8655.

Share the Love Gala

The annual Share the Love Gala benefiting CASA of Ellis County will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Waxahachie Civic Center.  

WFAA sports broadcaster Dale Hansen will be the auctioneer for the event with proceeds going towards volunteer programs for abused and neglected children of Ellis County.  

In addition to the silent and live auctions, raffle tickets will be sold for items including a Sig Sauer P320 pistol.  

Entertainment will be provided by The Classic Swing Band, and guests will receive a souvenir photo flipbook.  

Doors open at 6 p.m.
