The Waxahachie Lady Indians JV basketball team came out on top at the Irving Nimitz tournament over the weekend. The Lady Indians beat Irving High School in their first game, 71-35. Maddison Isbell lead the team in scoring with 12 points and seven rebounds. Darrielle Williams was right behind her with 10 points and eight rebounds. The team tallied 36 offensive rebounds and 27 defensive rebounds.The team also posted 18 assists.
Next, Waxahachie faced McArthur and won 51-31. Aarion Copeland led the team with 18 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Isbell, recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds and 11 points. Shai’Ann Carroll also had 11 points. The Lady Indians had 20 steals combined, Tavai Becks and Aarion Copeland each marked five of their own.
Waxahachie faced Irving-Nimitz in the championship game, where they won 49-37. Copeland lead the team with 21 points and eight rebounds, followed by Britney Hays with eight points.
Head coach Ashley Proffitt said she loves what she saw from the team.
“Overall I am very proud of my kids and the heart they showed this weekend,” said Proffitt.
