Plans are underway in Waxahachie ISD schools for the 17th annual Grandfriends Week Celebration. Sunday, Sept. 7 is Grandparents Day, but the week of Sept. 8-12 begins a week-long special celebration in Waxahachie ISD schools as students invite their grandparents, great-grandparents, “grand-friends” or “grand-neighbors” to join them for lunch, reading and storytelling.
“Grandfriends Week was developed to encourage intergenerational bonding with WISD students. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to enjoy lunch and share conversation and stories with grandparents and 'grandfriends.' We are excited and look forward to this event each year as it is always a very special time,” said Melissa Cobb, Partners in Education director.
Last year more than 3,300 “grandfriends” participated in this special week. Guests joined students from our own Waxahachie community, across the state and beyond. Grandfriends will participate at the WISD Childcare Center, Clift, Dunaway, Felty, Marvin, Northside, Shackelford and Wedgeworth Elementary Schools, Finley Junior High and Howard Junior High.
