The Waxahachie High School Ex-Students Association reminds WHS sports fans that nominations for the WHS Athletic Hall of Fame must be received at the WHS Athletic Office by June 1. The third annual Induction Ceremony and Scholarship Program will kick off Homecoming 2014 weekend on Thursday, Oct. 16 at the Waxahachie Civic Center.
Eligibility requirements and nomination forms can be found at www.waxahachieindians.com and www.waxahachieexstudents.org. Forms can also be obtained by contacting WHS Ex-Students Association board member Kim Garlitz at 972-923-9208 or email@example.com.
“We were extremely excited to award our first scholarship to Luke Shatwell last May. This year, we are even more excited that proceeds from the event will allow us to award scholarships to two separate WHS graduates,” said WHS Athletic Director David Ream. “Raising this scholarship money is a great byproduct of honoring our sports heroes and legends from WHS and Turner High School who are nominated by the community each year.”
Nominations are reviewed by a selection committee that is chaired by Coach Ream and comprised of twelve citizens of Waxahachie. Voting members will receive sealed ballots after the nominations are closed on June 1. Candidates receiving even one nomination will have their name appear on the ballot, and those who are not inducted this year will remain on the ballot for five years. The number of nominations for a particular candidate will not serve as a determining factor in the voting process.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available to fund the project and the scholarships it provides. For more information, visit www.waxahachieexstudents.org.
