Firefighters with Emergency Service District No. 6 hope to raise funds for Relay for Life and cancer research by hosting a garage sale from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at 415 Victorian Drive in Waxahachie.

“We are taking part in the Relay for Life this year. It is an event that has been going on for a long time,” ESD No. 6 Fire Chief Gavin Satterfield said. “We really wanted to get involved and raise money to help find a cure.”

Satterfield said the department would be raffling off two fire helmets that have been retired and received free custom paint jobs donated by Hydro Coating of Texas in Midlothian. One of the helmets features the U.S. flag, while the other depicts a wildfire with flames of purple, black and reddish colors.

Tickets for the raffle are $5 or five tickets for $20. Raffle tickets will be sold up until midnight on May 30. The winner will be drawn during the relay but does not have to be present to win. The helmets are retired from service and are not meant to be used as emergency equipment.

Some of the garage sale items include furniture and housewares. All of the proceeds from the sale will be given to the American Caner Society. Monetary donations will also be accepted at the garage sale.
