I have a friend that is a famous preacher and he writes books and if I told you his name you would know who he is.

My friend says every time a pagan gets cancer so does a Christian.

He says every time a pagan gets a divorce so does a Christian.

He says every time a pagan loses their job so does a Christian.

My friend says this happens so that the world can see difference.† I donít know if I agree with him but I get his point ó Iím just not sure how we are doing. There is a lot of talk about the church being ďrelevant.Ē

I would ask who gets to defines relevance? Iím guessing itís the culture. The only problem with that is the culture does not like Jesus very much so why would we allow them to define us or dictate to us how we do our business? Iím writing this at the end of October and so if any of us wondered what the church was about right now it would seem Halloween (I mean Fall Festival) is what is relevant and what the church is about. †

Jesus died for the bride but the bride has the banners outside of her buildings that say, ďFun, Candy & Door Prizes.Ē †

Does that represent us well and is that what we convey to those that pass by? †

I remember reading that His house would be a house of prayer and that it ticked Jesus off when we turned it into something else, maybe Iím wrong (I have been wrong before).

OK. Now that everyone whoís favorite color is ďblack & orangeĒ is mad Ė what do I have against harvest time? †

Nothing really, I just want us to think Ė is the harvest about bounce houses or is it about something else (I know the argument is about methodology).

When I hear people talk about their church I donít hear them talk about the Holy Spirit, Jesus and transformation. What I hear them talk about mostly are peripherals.

Before I get in too deep (maybe itís too late) let me get back to where I started.† Are we making a difference and or do they see the difference? †

The divorce rate in the church is often a point or half-point higher than outside the church, we watch the same movies, listen to the same music and yet we are the ďcalled out ones.Ē †

Called out to be different, right? †

I would think the church (methodology) should be about whatever challenges and changes people. †

If that is water being turned into wine ó letís do it. If it is raising people from the dead, letís do it. If it is feeding thousands of people with a kidís Happy Meal ó letís do that. †

But since the church is not growing it makes you think whatever we are doing is not getting it done. You know what they say about hitting your head against the wall?† It feels good when you stop. Iím ready for Christmas, how about you? Happy Birthday Jesus!
