Waxahachie police officers took three suspects into custody on charges connected with the theft  of an automated teller machine (ATM) from Waco early Wednesday morning.

“West Police were in a vehicle pursuit at about 12:30 a.m., which came through our city on Interstate Highway 35. I’m told it was a stolen van carrying a stolen ATM machine,” Waxahachie Police Department Lt. Todd Woodruff said. “The four occupants bailed out in our city limits. After a lengthy pursuit and search involving five agencies, three K-9 units and a Department of Public Safety helicopter, three out of the four suspects are in custody at the Wayne McCollum Detention Center. ”

Woodruff said Waxahachie’s canine located one of the suspects hiding in the bushes in a backyard in the 100 block of Neal Street. Waxahachie officers located two of the other suspects. One suspect was hiding under a bridge on I-35 and the other was hiding under part of an old car body at a gas station located at I-35E and Farm-to-Market Road 66.

Dallas resident Joshua Datrun Thomas, 24, was booked into Wayne McCollum Detention Center on charges of theft of property between $1,500-$20,000. Bond was set at $15,000.

A second suspect, Dallas resident James Andre Smith, has been charged with theft of property between $1,500-$20,000. Bond has been set at $15,000.

The third suspect, Charles Ray Harris Jr., was also charged with theft of property between $1,500-$20,000. He has bonded out of the detention center.

The fourth suspect is still at large at this time. His only description is a black male.

Woodruff said he expects the West Police Department to file charges for evading with vehicle and that Waco police may also file additional charges since they are investigating the stolen ATM case. An ATM was recovered inside the stolen van.
