Belk of Waxahachie is extending an invitation to Waxahachie-area schools and nonprofit organizations to participate in its semi-annual Belk Charity Sale from 6-10 a.m. Saturday, April 27.

Operations Team Manager and Charity Day Champion Robyn Spurgeon said this event is really important to them as a team and retail store.

“This is a way for Belk to give back to the community,” Spurgeon said. “And it gives us an opportunity to get everyone involved, all employees included.”

She said it also gives them the chance to meet the leaders of the community who are helping churches, schools, sports teams, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.

“It’s a lot of fun getting to work hand-in-hand with the local organizations and leaders of this community,” she said. “And this event makes for a fabulous day all around.”

Belk will provide tickets and informational materials at no cost to each participating organization. Spurgeon said 100 percent of the proceeds from each $5 ticket sold will be retained by the local charity. There is no limit to the number of tickets charities can sell, or to the amount of money they can raise.

Spurgeon said beginning Friday, April 19 tickets can be purchased at their location with all proceeds from in-store ticket sales equally divided among participating charities and schools in each local store.

Customers will also receive $5 off their first purchase and special discounts of 20-70 percent off throughout the store she said.

“That $5 ticket gives customers access to rarely discounted items,” she said. “All of our brands will be available at the lowest discounted price we’ve ever offered.”

In addition, she said that $5 ticket will be used as a $5 off coupon for the customer’s entire purchase.

“This event is a win-win,” she said. “The participating organizations raise funds to help assist them,  customers get great deals while helping local organizations and we have the opportunity to give back to a great community.”

On the morning of the Belk Charity Sale, the first 100 customers to arrive at each store will receive a Belk gift card ranging in value from $5 to $100, and a chance to win one of three $1,000 Belk gift cards being awarded company-wide. Also, participating charities and schools will be registered to win one of three $1,000 donations from Belk in a company-wide drawing.

Charity representatives interested in taking part in this one-of-a-kind fundraising event should contact their local Belk store manager for more information. In order to participate in the Belk Charity Sale, organizations must have an IRS Section 501(c)(3) designation from the Internal Revenue Service.
