Plans are underway in Waxahachie Schools for the annual Grandfriends Week Celebration.

Sunday, Sept.9 is Grandparents Day, but the week of Sept. 10-14 begins a week long special celebration in Waxahachie schools as students invite their grandparents, great-grandparents, grandfriends and grandneighbors to join them for lunch, reading and storytelling.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for intergenerational sharing for our students. We are excited about grandfriends joining students for lunch during this week as it is always a very special time,” said Melissa Cobb, Partners in Education Director.

Last year more than 2,900 grandfriends participated in this special week.  Guests joined students from our own Waxahachie community, across the state and beyond.

Grandfriends will participate at the WISD Childcare Center, Marvin, Clift, Dunaway, Felty, Northside, Shackelford and Wedgeworth elementaries, Finley Junior High and Howard Junior High.
