Weather Highlights for July 2012:

The first half of July 2012 was actually about normal for July. It was only slightly above normal on the average temperature. It seemed like it was going to be a normal July for a change. We all remember last years scorcher. I recorded only two days that reached 100 degrees or above the first half of July 2012. It reached 100 degrees on July 6 and 100 degrees on July 7.

However, during the second half of July 2012, I recorded ten days that reached 100 degrees or above. July ended with several days of intense heat. I recorded a scorching 109 on July 21. The last four days of the month ended with more scorching heat. The temperature July 28 reached 104 degrees, July 29 – 106 degrees, July 30 – 104 degrees, and July 31 reached 106 degrees.

The average low temperature for July 2012 was 1.4 degrees above normal. The average high was 2.5 degrees above normal and the overall average for July 2012 was only 2.0 degrees above normal. I say, only 2.0 degrees above normal , because it is the least above normal month so far this year. Every month this year has been above normal on the average temperature. July 2012 is also the eighteenth consecutive month that I have recorded above normal on the average temperature.

During the first half of July 2012, I recorded 1.13 inches of rain. Unfortunately, that would be total for the whole month. I recorded only a trace of rain during the last sixteen days of the month. July was 0.72 of an inch below normal on rainfall. The rainfall January through  July 2012 was 21.27 inches or 2.15 inches below normal.

July 2012 was below normal on rainfall and above normal on the average temperature. July and August are normally our two driest months of the year. They are also the two hottest months of the year. So, July and August are supposed to be hot and dry. In fact, it’s so dry that I saw a tree chasing a dog the other day. Well, it could have also just been this summer heat getting to me.
