TELICO – Fire destroyed two vacant mobile homes and sparked a grass fire that burned around five acres. Firefighters not only battled the flames but the heat of the day on Tuesday morning.

“We were toned out for mutual aid with Bardwell and then Ennis Fire Department. The actually call came in on observation Road as a structure fire and possible grass fire,” Telico Fire Department Capt. Charles Walker said. “We (had) two mobile homes that were fully involved when we arrived on scene. One was already on the ground when we arrived. Right now the fire is under control and everything is in the black.”

Walker said both homes were vacant at the time of the fire. Firefighters fought the fire defensively to keep the fire contained.  Crews were dispatched out to a call of a structure fire near the intersection of Bardwell Dam Road and Observation Road at 10:30 a.m.

Providing assistance on the call to Central High Fire Department were members of the Telico, Ennis, Bardwell, Avalon, Forreston and Alma Fire Departments. The cause of the fire is under the investigation by the County Fire Marshal Joe Stewart.
