FERRIS — A cooking fire on Tuesday morning resulted in heavy damage to a kitchen of a mobile home.
Firefighters were dispatched at 9:52 a.m. to the 100 block of Chaparral Road to the structure fire.
Ferris Fire Chief Scott Mitchell said the residents had left the home when the fire started. They returned back to the home to see if the stove was turned off and found smoke coming from the structure, Mitchell said.
Cooking materials had caught fire and the fire spread from the stove to the rest of the kitchen.
The homeowner was able to keep the fire in check until firefighters arrived on scene to extinguish it. Heavy fire damage was done to the kitchen with heavy smoke damage throughout the rest of the home.
Members of the Red Oak Fire Department provided assistance with overhaul operations.
The Palmer Fire Department was requested but was canceled en route. No injuries were reported from residents or firefighters working the fire. Units cleared the scene and returned to the station at 11 a.m.
