AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Investigators say two children and an elderly woman have died in two unrelated house fires in Central Texas.
Austin Fire Department Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr says authorities are trying to determine what caused a fire Tuesday that killed two children. Kerr says the victims were ages 5 and 7.
Names of the youngsters and further details on them weren't immediately released. Five other people escaped the flames in southeastern Austin.
Kerr says another house fire Tuesday left a 74-year-old woman dead. Her name hasn't been released.
No cause has been determined for the blaze in the eastern part of Austin. Officials say three people escaped but suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital. Their names and conditions weren't immediately released.
A firefighter suffered minor burns.
