John William Winn Jr. passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, with his children, Brent, Janis and Melissa by his side. He was born July 21, 1926 in Forreston, Texas at the home of his parents, John William Winn Sr. and Ruby Moore Winn. John served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He married Norma Jean Lloyd on Feb. 10, 1950 and they resided on Monticello Drive in Waxahachie for more than 50 years. John, known by his friends as Junior or JW, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waxahachie and the Downtown Menís Bible Class. He retired from the VA Hospital in Dallas.
He is survived by: his son, John Brent Winn, and wife, Barbara, and granddaughters, Jana Hall and Meredith Murray; his daughter, Janis Hodgson and husband, Bill, grandsons, Justin and Dodson Gaither; his daughter, Melissa Poe and husband, Jason, granddaughter, Lindsay Lovett Poe, grandsons, John and Austin; and son-in-law, Kevin Graves; along with 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. †
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma; son, Richard Scott Winn; and sisters: Betty Crouch and Marjorie Winn.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012, in the chapel of the Boze-Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home. Graveside service with Military Honors will follow at the Forreston Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Crouch, Scott Crouch, John Crouch, Davis Bevels, Justin Gaither and Dodson Gaither.
