Henry Vernon Byrd was born March 18, 1921, in Shreveport, La., and passed away peacefully Sept. 12, 2011. He served his country as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Force (1942-1946) with the Air Transport Command in the European, North Africa and Middle East Theaters. He retired in 1983 after 38 years in military, airline and corporate aviation.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Farrar Byrd; two sons, Henry V. Byrd Jr., and wife, Sharon, and Charles S. Byrd; two grandchildren, Kristin MacFarland and husband, Scott, and Karin Byrd; as well as two great-grandchildren, Brady and Kacey MacFarland.

A visitation for family and friends is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie.

A graveside service with military honors is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Smith Cemetery, Waxahachie.
