Kermit Clarence Browne, Jr., son of Kermit Clarence Browne, Sr. and Velda Louise (Sillin) Browne, was born July 11, 1936 in Kansas City, Kansas and passed from this life, peacefully in his sleep, on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022 at his home in Waxahachie, Texas at 86 years of age.
“Butch” to childhood family and friends, and “K.C.” to those with whom he befriended as an adult, moved with his family from Kansas City to Maryville, Mo as a young teen. At Maryville High School, he was a member of the football and basketball teams, had numerous friends, and graduated in 1956. That summer, he married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Sue Scott, on July 17, 1956, and three children blessed their union: Katherine Sue, Walter Scott, and Kelly Marie.

K.C. grew up working in the Browne family nursery business and spent a lifetime working in the industry. His career achievements are too numerous to list, but include top national sales for Vaughn Seed Co. in the 1960s; owner of an international plant brokerage, K.C.B, Inc., in the 1980s and 90s; and top sales for Lambert Peat Moss of Toronto, beginning in 2010 and continuing through Nov. 2022. His career began working in his family’s retail florist shop and greenhouse and, over the decades, included growing indoor tropical varieties, outdoor bedding plants, lilies for Easter and poinsettias for Christmas.
K.C. and Sandra moved with their young family from Maryville to Plant City, Florida, to Napierville, Illinois, and ultimately settled in Waxahachie in 1975 as the owners of Greenwood Nursery in Waxahachie as well as a farm in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They were long-time members of the First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie.
K.C. enjoyed playing golf and billiards, traveling to places across North America and Europe, studying history, and doing jigsaw and sudoku puzzles. But, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Those relatives who preceded K.C. in death were his wife Sandra Browne, his parents Kermit C and Velda Browne, and his eldest child, Dr. Katherine Sue Browne Donaldson.
K.C. leaves to cherish his memory his son Scott Browne and wife Denise, daughter Kelly Marie Cameron, grandchildren Kerry Donaldson-Willert and husband Paul, Jennifer Dickson and husband Matt, Richard Salas, Kristen McFarland, Scott Browne and wife Adria, Jackeline Caruso and husband Doug, Brian Salas, Josh West and wife Kiara, Linda Luttrell and husband Dylan, Tonya Kaup; great-grandchildren Nicole, Trenton, Kacey, Bella, Richlynn, Skyler, Eli, Liam, Adalyn, Avery, Oliver, Jerry, Jameson, Brantley, Essie, Kyleigh, Conner, and great-great grandchild Brinlee.
