Both Waxahachie softball teams, the varsity and junior varsity, played in tournaments Thursday-Saturday.

On Friday night, the varsity Lady Indians played in the South Lake Tournament.

In the first game Waxahachie defeated San Antonio Alamo Heights, 7-3, in 10 innings. In the second game of the day for the Lady Indians they lost 6-3 to Splendora.

At home in the Lady Indian Junior Varsity Tournament, the junior varsity Lady Indians completed pool play with a perfect 3-0 record.

Waxahachie opened pool play on Thursday be beating Arlington Ninth 15-1. Late Thursday night the Lady Indians defeated Mansfield, 7-6.

Against Mansfield, Waxahachie rallied from a 1-0 hole by scoring four runs in the third and three runs in the fourth inning.

Winning pitcher Lauren Johnson also excelled at the plate as she clubbed a homerun and a double while driving in three runs for Waxahachie.

Jessica Berry had two hits in the game while Bree Lawrence, Calli Thompson, Selena Mejorado and Caitlyn Woodhouse all had one hit.

Thompson had two RBI while Tania Vitela had another in the close game.

In Waxahachie’s last pool game on Friday, the Lady Indians defeated Red Oak 7-2.

Waxahachie scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning before scoring two more in the third. Red Oak scored one run in the third and fourth inning but could not catch the Lady Indians.

Berry had two singles for Waxahachie while Mejorado singled twice and scored two runs.

Johnson had an RBI on a sac-fly while Woodhouse scored two runs in the game.

This week the Lady Indians will play against Ennis in District 16-4A action. The two teams will square off on Tuesday in Waxahachie. Junior varsity first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. while the varsity will begin at 7 p.m.

Starting on Thursday, the varsity team will compete in the McKinney Tournament while the JV team will play in the Mansfield Junior Varsity Tournament.

Both tournaments are the last of the season for the Lady Indians.
