In a battle of two of the top teams in the Mary Jane Eubank Memorial Softball Tournament the Waxahachie Lady Indians fell to defending Class 3A state-runner up West, 9-2, Friday at Lady Indian Ballpark.
West broke a scoreless game with two runs in the third before adding three in the fifth before Waxahachie answered back in the bottom half of the inning.
Trailing 5-0 with one out in the bottom of the fifth, pinch-hitter Cassie Hayes drew a walk before advancing to second on a bloop to center by Taylor Engel.
Freshman catcher Marissa Hooper moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt before freshman Ariel Oritz singled to right driving in both runners.
West did not rest on the lead and added three runs in the sixth off a home run to right-center and one in the seventh.
Waxahachie had four hits in the loss as Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Engel and Tori Kvapil had the other two hits for Waxahachie.
West had 11 hits in the game with two home runs.
