At home at Wilemon Field Friday night the Waxahachie junior varsity soccer teams pulled away from visiting Ferris in district play with big wins in both the girls and boys game.

The JV1 Lady Indians took a 3-0 lead at the half before winning 6-0 as five players found the back of the net for Waxahachie.

“Girls did a great job maintaining possession and working the ball. Everyone got to play equal amount of minutes and we shuffled a lot of players around to get them some looks at other positions,” JV coach Seth Riley said. “Considering all the moves, the girls did a great job of knowing their role whether they have played there before or not and didn’t seem like we missed a beat.”

Annie Clayton started off the scoring for Waxahachie off a free kick that she put over the keeper’s head.

Marybeth Martin added two goals in the game while Karina Martinez, Hailey David and Jasenda Ferguson had one goal each.

David, Reyanne West, Ferguson and Martin all had assists as the Lady Indians continue to play well on the pitch.

In the second game of the evening the Indians JV1 defeated Ferris 4-1.

Mike Mora scored two goals in the game including the only goal of the first half as the Indians took a 1-0 lead at the break.

In the second half Ferris attempted to rally back and scored a goal but Waxahachie answered with three goals of its own as Mora, Adrian Hernandez and Matthew Berning all found the net to give Waxahachie the win.

“Mike scored the only goal of the first half off a great shot from about 25 yards out,” Riley said. “The game was a physical battle, but our guys did a great job playing the game and not the man. Adrian scored off a set piece corner that we have been working on and finally was able to connect. Jose Garcia did a great job setting the tempo in the game and set up a couple nice goals. It is nice to see the boys string some goals together after we have been struggling of late to score since losing some guys to varsity.”

The JV1 boys will play Monday at home against Burleson Centennial at 7 p.m. while the Lady Indians JV1 team will play Friday at home against Red Oak. The JV1 boys will play Red Oak Friday with games starting at 5:30 p.m.
