ENNIS - Ennis coach Sam Harrell said that traditional non-district opponent Waco High (2-0), being the No. 2 ranked team in the state provided a good measuring stick for his E-town Lions (1-1).

Waco rushed for 401 yards on 52 carries, an astonishing 7.7 yards per carry.

Ennis made a lot of little mistakes and when you do that against a good team it makes for a big explosion, as Waco High scored 21 unanswered third quarter points. The biggest play of the quarter was a 58-yard fumble recovery that was returned for a touchdown by Victor Johnson with 2:13 to play in the period.

Ennis was able to rebound in the fourth quarter with 14 unanswered points of their own, but it was not enough as Waco took the win 38-20.

Ennis got its first touchdown in the second quarter when Cortney Brooks scored on a 3-yard pass from quarterback Chris Lewis.

From there, Waco dominated the play, scoring the next 21 points to grab a 38-6 lead in the fourth quarter.

Ennis was paced by Lewis, who threw for 219 yards and a touchdown.

King ran for only 16 yards, but did score two touchdowns.

Dallas Lincoln will travel into Ennis next Friday with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
