After moving everything back for four hours Saturday, more rains Sunday morning caused the cancellation of bracket play at the USSSA state tournament.
Since the bracket portion of the tournament was not played, winners were determined by seeding.
Under the different format, Waxahachie’s 10U Yankees finished fourth place while the 8U Marlins and 14U Blue Jays finished in the middle of the pack.
The Yankees won both of their pool games, beating the Ovilla Longhorns 9-3 and the Grand Prairie Indians 8-7 to claim a plus-7 run differential.
The big win came against the Indians, who were fresh off an 8-0 win just two hours before playing the Yankees.
The Marlins finished 1-1 in the tournament.
After opening with a 12-4 loss to the Grand Prairie Cardinals, the Marlins rebounded with a big 13-3 win over the Ovilla Astros.
Waxahachie’s 14U Blue Jays took a couple of tough, close defeats in pool play, falling to the Cedar Hill Longhorns 8-6 and the Lewisville Lightning 13-9.
The Waxahachie Tribe was set to host the 8U AA state tournament, but it was completely rained out. The Waxahachie Youth Baseball League is trying to reschedule for this weekend.
All three teams that competed at the state level last weekend qualified for the World Series, which is scheduled to begin June 17 and run through June 22 in Granbury.
