MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Texas held off a ninth-inning rally by Kansas State to beat the Wildcats 6-5 on Friday.
Kansas State jumped out to an early three-run lead before Texas scored four runs in the fourth and added another run in the eighth.
The Longhorns scored once more in the top of the ninth, but Kansas State attempted to catch up, scoring twice in the bottom of the ninth. Texas' Pat McCrory got the final out to end the game and record the save.
Kyle Russell and Jordan Danks both homered for the Longhorns (25-17, 9-10 Big 12).
Jason King had two hits, including a home run, and batted in two runs to lead the scoring for Kansas State (19-22, 5-11).
Chance Ruffin (5-3) gave up three hits and struck out six in six and a third innings to record the win. Justin Murray (2-1) gave up six hits and four runs, striking out one in three and two-thirds innings to get the loss.
