As sports become more competitive, players play their sport year-round to become the best.
To give the aspiring players a place to play several area schools have opened up their gyms for summer basketball leagues.
Area girls are participating in the Waxahachie Summer League at the J.W. Williams Gym at WHS.
In the second day of games, Waxahachie defeated Palmer 48-17, Kennedale and Maypearl tied at 33 while Midlothian defeated Red Oak 42-39.
The games give the girls something to do in the summer while gaining experience for high school games that will begin in November.
The Waxahachie League games are played every Tuesday and Thursday through the end of June.
Schedules for area basketball leagues, including the boy’s league in Midlothian, can be found on page five.
