ENNIS – The series debut of Thundering Thursday at Texas Motorplex will be free to all Ellis County residents May 12.

The series will feature the best grudge and street racing, Happy Hour specials, games, live music and fireworks throughout the season. Thundering Thursdays allow any licensed driver to feel like John Force, line up on the famous Texas Motorplex starting line and thunder down the all-concrete quarter-mile track.

Admission for spectators 13 and older will normally be $5 – racing is just $10. But Ellis County residents will be admitted free on May 12 to help launch the new series.

The series will feature a high school championship and is intended to be entertaining to fans as well as help curb illegal street racing.

“Even one death a year from illegal street racing is too much,” Motorplex general manager Gabrielle Stevenson said. “We want to do our part by opening our gates more often and provide a world class facility for racers of all levels. The Motorplex is always a safer alternative to racing on the streets and we will offer discounts and a championship series for high school students.”

Gates open at 6 p.m. and racing goes until 11 p.m. Check out www.texasmotorplex.com or call 972-878-2641 for information.

Texas Motorplex was the first all-concrete stadium-style drag racing facility ever constructed. Built in 1986, Texas Motorplex has been the place of many drag racing milestones and world record performances. The Billy Meyer-owned facility hosts a number of racing and car show events between March and November each year and also features the Champion’s Club.
