SAN ANTONIO (AP) San Antonio forward Tim Duncan did not play Tuesday night against the Dallas Mavericks because of a sore right knee, leaving the Spurs to tackle their division rivals without two of their stars.

The Spurs provided no other details in making the announcement shortly before tip-off, and coach Gregg Popovich made no mention of Duncan's health while speaking with reporters before the game.

San Antonio was already without Manu Ginobili, who has not played since the All-Star break because of a stress reaction in his right ankle. He is expected to miss another few weeks.

It is the first game Duncan has missed because of injury this season. Popovich sat Duncan, Ginobili and Tony Parker earlier this month in a loss at Denver in the early stages of the Spurs' recent eight-game road swing.

Duncan leads the Spurs with 20.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. His 35 doubles-doubles are third-most in the NBA.

It is only the fifth game Duncan has missed to injury the past two seasons. He sat out four games last year with a sprained right ankle.
