PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (AP) — Prairie View women's basketball coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke has signed a new four-year contract.
Athletics director Fred Washington said Wednesday that the former Houston Comets star and Olympic gold medalist was at the end of her original four-year contract.
Before she arrived, the team had never had a winning season, but has won three consecutive regular season Southwestern Athletic Conference basketball championships and two SWAC postseason tournament titles. Prairie View has also earned two bids to the NCAA women's tournament and one trip to the women's NIT.
Cooper-Dyke tells Houston television station KRIV that the deal is a "burden that has been lifted off of my shoulders" and that she can now focus on next year's team.
