Registration open for 5K run for education

The officers and board members for the Education Foundation for Waxahachie ISD announce that registration is open for the first Legacy Run, slated for Oct. 8.

The Legacy Run will be presented by local homebuilder, Lillian Custom Homes. The theme for this year’s event, which will take place during homecoming weekend, is “Lights. Camera. Hachie!”

The Legacy Run will feature a 5K and one-mile fun run/walk that will begin and end at the newly renovated Lumpkins Stadium.

Early registration for the family-friendly event runs through Sept. 23. Adult cost to participate is $25 and students (kindergarten-12th grade) are $10.

Children 4 and younger are free with the purchase of an adult registration entrance fee. The foundation is also offering a Family4Pack-discount to those wishing to make this a family affair.

Participants may continue to register after the early registration deadline and on the day of the race for a fee of $30 for adults.

Runners and walkers may register and pay online, by mail or in person.

Club soccer players

The Kernow Storm is looking for soccer players for the upcoming season.

Led by coach Antony Penna the club will have both boys and girls teams for ages U6 through U19 open to all skills levels and to anyone in Ellis County and beyond.

Junior Adult Golf Tournament

Waxahachie Country Club will be hosting a two-person scramble, nine-hole tournament Saturday, Sept. 24.

The tournament will begin at 5 p.m. and the first 30 teams to register will be entered.

The cost is $20 per adult and $10 per junior. Prizes will be given to all kids and there will be tee gifts for juniors.

Baseball tournaments

The Optimist fields in Waxahachie will host baseball tournaments this weekend for all ages.

The levels are: modified t-ball, 7/8U coach pitch, 9/10U, 11/12U and 13/14U.

The modified t-ball level will include three pitches to player from a coach and if he does not hit it then they get 3 swings off the tee or coaches may choose to give the player six pitches to the batter. This cost is $125 per team.

The 7/8U coach pitch entry is $250 per team. 

The 9/10U and 11/12U  entry is $330 per team. 

The 13/14U entry is $350 per team.

There is a three-game guarantee, including two pool play games on Saturday and single elimination on Sunday. 

Deadline to sign up is noon Wednesday.

The tournament will be played under USSSA/National rules with the addition of a five-run per inning limit in t-ball, six-run per inning limit in coach pitch, and seven-run per inning limit in all other age groups.
