Meet the Indians

The Chick-fil-A Meet the Indians will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 at Wilemon Field in Waxahachie. The event will be scaled down compared to season’s past due to the renovations at Lumpkins Stadium. Only the three football teams (freshmen, junior varsity, varsity) will be introduced to the community. Waxahachie spirit wear will be on sale before the event as fans are encouraged to arrive early.

Hachie Heat baseball

Waxahachie Tribe baseball is striving to field two teams for the upcoming season. Tryouts will be Aug. 20 and Aug. 27 for Waxahachie residents only. Waxahachie Youth Baseball fall registration is open online at wybonline.org. Divisions range from 3-4U Blast Ball to 14U.

Soccer lessons

Riley Soccer Academy will begin weekly lessons for all soccer players looking to get extra training Wednesday, Aug. 31.

The Academy will be every Wednesday at Lions Park for all ages and will be separated by age groups.  Cost is $10 for ages 4-6 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and $15 for ages 7 and up and will be from 6:30-8.

There will be a group just for goalkeepers ages 8 and up. The Academy will provide private lesson opportunities and team training for local teams as well as speed and agility training for all athletes and teams.

Academy soccer program

The Kernow Storm FC is offering an All-star Academy Soccer Program taught by its dedicated coaching staff.

Games are played on Sundays as to not conflict with other leagues while players improve at a rapid pace due to structured training. Competing is against some of the best teams in the DFW area while practices are held in Waxahachie. Open tryouts are under way and will be held until Aug. 20. The program is open to 7U-10U. WJHS football equipment

Finley and Howard Junior High football players can pick up equipment Saturday, Aug. 20, at the school they will attend in the fall. There will be a short parent meeting in the gym to start the process.

All players must have a physical to receive equipment.

Athletes entering eighth-grade will meet from 9-11 a.m. while athletes entering seventh-grade will meet from 1-3:30 p.m.

SAGU cheer clinic

Southwestern Assemblies of God University’s cheer team will host its annual Pee Wee Cheer Camp from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. The event is open to the public for ages 5-12. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The $25 cost includes a T-shirt, a snack, photo with the SAGU cheerleaders and two tickets to a SAGU football game. The Pee Wee Cheer Camp will cover jumps, cheer and dance. Campers will learn a cheer to perform during a home football game this fall.

basketball tryouts

Tryouts for Howard and Finley Junior High School basketball and volleyball teams will be held in late August. Seventh and Eighth-grade volleyball tryouts will be Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 23-24.

Basketball tryouts will be Thursday and Friday, Aug. 25-26. Eighth-grade tryouts begin at 2:45 p.m. each day while Seventh-grade begins at 5:30 p.m.

Waxahachie Youth Baseball Association will now provide softball for Waxahachie area girls. Registration is available online at wybonline.org. Divisions will range from 5-6U t-ball to 14U kid pitch. Each league will have an eight-game season with games played Monday-Tuesday at the Waxahachie Sports Complex starting Sept. 6.

Registration open for

5K run for education

The officers and board members for the Education Foundation for Waxahachie ISD announce that registration is open for the first Legacy Run, slated for Oct. 8.

The Legacy Run will be presented by local homebuilder, Lillian Custom Homes. The theme for this year’s event, which will take place during homecoming weekend, is “Lights. Camera. Hachie!”

The Legacy Run will feature a 5K and one-mile fun run/walk that will begin and end at the newly renovated Lumpkins Stadium.

Early registration for the family-friendly event runs through Sept. 23. Adult cost to participate is $25 and students (kindergarten-12th grade) are $10. Children 4 and younger are free with the purchase of an adult registration entrance fee. The foundation is also offering a Family4Pack-discount to those wishing to make this a family affair.

Participants may continue to register after the early registration deadline and on the day of the race for a fee of $30 for adults.

Runners and walkers may register and pay online, by mail or in person. To register and pay for the race online, visit the Legacy Run website at www.wisdlegacyrun.org. Participants also have the option of downloading a race registration form and mailing it to the Education Foundation or stopping by the Waxahachie ISD administration building, located at 411 N. Gibson St.

Football season tickets

With the 2011 football season near the information for season tickets has been released. Sales to current season ticket holders will begin Aug. 23 while new season ticket sales begin Sept. 1.

All ticket sales will be held at the Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy library, a new location from previous seasons. Tickets are $32 per seat. Sales to current season ticket holders will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, Thursday, Aug. 25 and from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27.

Trade Day will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30 before new season tickets are released from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1.
