Waxahachie athletic camps

Summer is almost here and that means there will be plenty of athletic camps hosted by Waxahachie High School coaches. Registration forms and complete information on every camp can be found online at www.waxahachieindians.com.

The volleyball, football and softball camps will be held June 6-9 while the speed and strength camp will be held June 6-July 21.

June 13-16 the baseball, girls basketball and soccer camps will be held while the tennis and boys basketball camps will be held June 20-23.

WISD free physicals

Waxahachie ISD physicians will be conducting free physicals for WISD student athletes on May 17 and May 19 at Solis Gym on the campus of Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy beginning at 6 p.m.  

All males athletes physicals will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, and all female athletes physicals will be conducted on Thursday, May 19.  

Physicals are first come first serve. Students coming to physicals will need to have the WISD physical packet signed with all parents signatures and student signatures obtained on the forms before coming to physicals. The forms can be obtained at the Waxahachie High School main training room or through the head coaches of each of the sports that WISD offers.  

Physicals on both dates will begin at 6 p.m.    Students should report with their appropriate physical paperwork and signatures.   

WISD requires each prospective athlete to obtain a physical yearly for participation in athletics in grades 7-12. This will be the only time that WISD physicians will offer a free physical for the upcoming school year.

Green and White BBQ

The annual H-E-B Green and White Bar-be-que hosted by the Waxahachie Quarterback Club will be held May 20-21 with lunch plates being $6 and proceeds going to the Waxahachie Indian football program. Plates include sliced bar-be-que, beans, potato salad, onion, pickles and bread.

Tickets are available from Indian football players, Waxahachie Quarterback Club members and WHS coaches. Special orders turned in to football@wisd.org by May 19 will be delivered to WISD schools or local businesses on May 20. From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, plates will be served at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.

Sand volleyball tournament

A 3-on-3 sand volleyball tournament will be held on Memorial Day, May 30, to support the Ellis County Juniors Volleyball Club. Juniors 12-14 will play at 8 a.m. while adults ages 16-up will play at 1 p.m. The cost is $20 per player, $60 per team.

There will be 12 teams per division. Entry deadline is Friday, May 27. Games will be played on a full-size beach court in Midlothian. To register or for more information, contact Melody Miller at 972-814-5524 or healthyhachie@sbcglobal.net.

Junior golf camps

Waxahachie Country Club is offering weekly golf camps in June, July and August. The camps are open to children from 6-16 years of age. This year’s camps include new golf and swim camps as well as advanced camps for experienced juniors. Call Devin Thomas at 972-937-3521 to sign up or get more information. Red Oak High School

Summer camp dates

The Red Oak baseball program will host a summer camp June 13-14 at Buddy Groom Field for players ranging from third-graders to eight-graders. The camp will start at 9:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m.  Players will need to bring a bat, batting gloves, a glove and shoes without metal spikes. The cost is $54.

Red Oak tennis will host three summer camps for varying ages. A camp for sixth- through eighth-graders will be from June 6-10, camp for incoming ninth-graders will be June 13-17 and a camp for kindergarten through fifth-graders will be from June 20-23. The older camps will run from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. with the younger camp letting out at 11 a.m. The cost for the younger camp is $50 before June 6 and $60 afterwards. The two older camps cost $65 in pre-registration and $75 after. Deadline for the third- through eighth-grade camp is June 1 with ninth-grade camp deadline set for June 6.

The Red Oak football program will hold camps at the high school athletic complex practice field for two different age groups. third- through sixth-graders will practice from 8-11 a.m. on June 6-9 while ninth-graders will work from 8-11 a.m. from July 18-21.

The boys and girls soccer programs will hold joint camps from June 13-16 at Billy Goodloe Stadium. Ages 5-12 will work out from 9 a.m.-noon while ages 13-15 will work from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The Lady Hawk volleyball program will have three summer camps at the high school gym starting June 13-16. A beginner camp for seventh-graders will be from 8:30-11 a.m. with an intermediate camp for eighth-graders from noon-3 p.m. Younger campers will take part in a camp from sixth-grade and below from 8:30-10:30 a.m. July 18-21.

The girls basketball program will  hold camp from 9 a.m.-noon on June 6-10 for players entering second-grade all the way through ninth-grade.

Midlothian soccer signup

If you are a Midlothian student planning to play soccer next season for either the boys or girls teams, you will need to stop in talk about trying out with the coaching staff.

Any boys who is interested in trying out for soccer next year and is not already in soccer class must meet with coach Austin Guest in his classroom (604) by May 20.

Any girl interested in trying out and isn’t in soccer class, must meet with coach Sid Danner in his room (Lab 5) by May 20 as well.

MHS summer basketball training and workouts

Offseason basketball programs for both the girls and boys teams at Midlothian are in the process of getting ready for the summer. This program is open to all current players and any incoming freshman planning to play basketball next season.

Cost of the training will be tournament registration fees and jerseys with nearly all practices to be conducted during open gyms at the high school. Spring league tournaments won’t be identified until later in March when all state playoffs are finished. Tournaments will start before school lets out and run throughout the summer.

Along with players, organizers are looking for team coordinators and coaches to help out. The hope is to have three boy and three girl teams for work this summer.

The Midlothian soccer booster club will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. on May 16.

Registration for the fifth annual Brandon Palady 4v4 Tournament is May 22. The tournament will be  June 10-12.

The Midlothian ISD athletic department has released its list of summer camps for this summer. Six different sports will host campers of all ages.

June 6 -9

Baseball - Contact: Ray Hydes

Ages 7-10 will be from 9 a.m.-noon and ages 11-14 will be from 2-5 p.m.

Soccer - Contact: Austin Guest

Grades kindergarten to fifth-grade (girls and boys) will be from 8:30-11 a.m and boys in grades sixth to ninth-grade will be from 1-3:30 p.m.

First to sixth-grades will be from 5:30-8:00 pm

June 13-16
