CORSICANA – The Waxahachie Lady Indians’ junior varsity team allowed the hometown Corsicana Lady Tigers to think they had a chance at a win on Tuesday night.
Waxahachie took a slight lead, 19-13, into half time before exploding for 22 points in the second half en route to a 41-20 victory.
“The second half we cut down on our turnovers and became more focused,” Waxahachie coach Pattilyn Wilkinson said. “We played the type of basketball we normally play in the second half. Our starting five did a better job in the second half as we got back on defense and forced turnovers.”
The Lady Indians outscored Corsicana 22-7 in the second half.
Leading scorer for the Lady Indians was Jessica Gonzales with 10 points.
“Gonzales plays with no fear and is not scared of driving the lane. She also has good post moves,” Wilkinson said.
Other Lady Indians with points in the win include Taylor Hill (7), Tray Washington (2), Dae Dae Davis (2), De’Nisha Love (2), Ta’Kadrian Williams (7), Kraneshia Overton (2), T’Arica Henderson (2) and Marquisha Finley (7).
Waxahachie is scheduled to play Hewitt Midway on Friday in Waxahachie. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Wilkinson said the Lady Indians take one game at a time and know what is on the line this Friday.
Midway defeated the Lady Indians earlier in the season and Wilkinson said the team will make adjustments for Friday’s game.
The Lady Indians are 15-6 on the season and 5-2 in district play.
