DALLAS — It drizzled, it sprinkled, the clouds flew by and the sun shined, but better yet, an army of 91 golfers moved out in force with clubs in hand to raise money for the SAGU athletic department Saturday morning at the Bear Creek Golf Club in Dallas.

In between the standard Texas weather mix of early May, the 11th Annual SAGU Golf Classic is the athletic department’s top fundraiser of the year and was a bona fide success, fielding the largest number of participants in a few years.

The team of Darius Johnston, Brendon Johnson, Brock Johnston, and Dale Donaldson won first place in the tournament by shooting a 59 for the course, 13-below par.

After 18 holes on the Bear Creek course the participants were treated to a smorgasbord of fajitas and door prizes.

Last year’s golf tournament benefited primarily SAGUâs state of the art weight room and workout facilities that are used by both athletes and students alike.

This year’s money will assist in the building of a baseball field that will be located on the SAGU campus.

The field will be nestled in the shadows of Teeter and Bridges Hall — the two newest dorms on campus.

When complete the baseball field will host SAGU home baseball games and tournaments from around the area.
