The SAGU men's basketball team returned to the Full Life Center after two weeks without a contest.
Their return was against the same team they played two weeks ago, Howard Payne University. In Brownwood against the Yellowjackets, SAGU was stung and lost 73-60.
SAGU was hoping the friendly confines of the Lions Den would aid in their success.
In the first half, the lead changed hands eight times; four times in favor of SAGU and four times in favor of HPU.
With 4:25 left in the half, Matt Daniels, on a two-point jumper, gave SAGU their largest lead of the half, 25-21.
This would stir-up the Yellowjackets who would go on a 15-4 run leading up the half. This run gave HPU an 11 point lead at the half; 36-25.
SAGU did not manage to turn the tide in the opening minutes of the second half. With 10:49 remaining in the game, HPU held a 19 point lead over the Lions; 58-39.
Then SAGU would rattle the Yellowjacket’s cage. SAGU pounced on some HPU turnovers and went on an 11-2 run and trailed by nine points (60-51) with 5:05 left in the game.
With 2:08 left in the game, Gerren Hamilton hit a three pointer and the Lions were down 54-62.
HPU would not allow the game to get any closer and the Yellowjackets stung the Lions again, 65-54.
Daniel Pease was the point leader with 12 and also he had 11 rebounds to lead that category and complete the double-double.
