AUSTIN Ė The SAGU Lady Basketball Lions took their 4-1 conference record down to the capital of Texas to take on the 4-1 Huston-Tillotson Lady Rams on Thursday night. SAGUís defense dominated the second half as the Lady Lions won 57-40.
The only other team ahead of these two foes in conference play was Langston University with a 5-1 conference record.† Langstonís lone loss came at the hands of the SAGU Lady Lions to open conference.††
After the first half, SAGU held a 32-26 lead over the Lady Rams. In the second half, the Lady Lions would allow the Lady Rams to score only 15 points while adding 25 more tallies to their first half total.† SAGU grabbed its fifth conference win in six games.
Chelsea Jones scored at least 20-points in her third straight game by dropping in 21 points. Both Stephanie Hawkins and Heather Jefferson complimented that with 11 points of their own. Beneath the basket, Shaquita Roberts grabbed 14 rebounds to lead SAGU.
The Lady Lions will play next in the Full Life Center against Texas Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Three conference games remain in the first half of conference play.†
The SAGU Lions went to Austin looking to pick up a conference win in the stateís capital.
After a hard fought affair, the Lions lost in double-overtime, 98-95.
The Huston-Tillotson Rams improved to 5-1 in conference play while SAGU dropped to 1-5.
Chris Valliere led the Lions with 22 points, while Jon Black hit double-double territory with 17 points and 11 rebounds.†† Al Thompson and Jeremy Bowman each notched 14 points. Gerren Hamilton recorded 15 assists in the contest.†
The Lions will take on Texas Wesleyan in the Full Life Center on Saturday night.†† The menís game will start around 7:30 p.m.
