The University of Texas-Pan American head baseball coach Willie Gawlik announed on Tuesday that Waxahachie’s Jordan Rutenbar has signed a national letter of intent and will join the Broncs in the fall of 2007.

“We are excited about Jordan coming into our program,” Gawlik said. “He is coming from a quality junior college and high school program.

“Jordan can catch, play first or fit in as a designated hitter. His flexibility is a great asset to our program and we look for him to make an immediate contribution.”

The newly-signed Bronc comes to the Rio Grande Valley from Tyler Junior College, where he finished his freshman season with a .356 conference batting average and drove in 21 RBI to go along with 21 runs scored, 13 doubles and a .515 slugging percentage.

In his final season at Tyler Junior College, Rutenbar led the Apaches to their first NJCAA National Championship.

The Apaches finished with a 39-11 overall record and a 32-4 conference record.

The newly-inked Bronc posted a .524 batting average to go along with 11 hits, six RBI, two doubles and one home run during the 2007 NJCAA Division III World Series.

A three-year starter at Waxahachie, the newly-inked Bronc collected first team all-district honors in his final two seasons with the Indians.

Rutenbar is the eighth player to be added to the Broncs rosterfor the upcoming season and joins fellow Tyler Junior College teammate Billy Donaho and former high school teammate Bonham Hough.
