RED OAK — The first ever Ritter-Carter Relays are scheduled on Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Red Oak High School track.
Field events and the 3200-meter run will begin at 3:30 p.m.; running events will begin at 5:30 pm.
Admission in $4 for adults and $3 for students.
The following schools will participate in the meet in the boys’ category: Red Oak, Ennis, Corsicana, Midlothian, Maypearl and Dallas Oak Cliff Life. In the girls’ category, it will be Red Oak, Ennis, Corsicana, Midlothian, Maypearl and Waxahachie.
This meet is named after two Red Oak graduates who have gone on to compete in the Olympic Games in track and field.
Louise Ritter was the Olympic gold medalist in the high jump at the 1988 Seoul Games. Michelle Carter was an eight-time state champion in the shot put and discus while in high school.
Carter threw in shot put for the University of Texas while in college where she was an All-American. Last summer, Carter won the Olympic qualifier in Eugene, Ore. In the shot put and competed in the Beijing Games, where she placed 14th.
