The long awaited match between the Waxahachie and Red Oak soccer teams went the way of the Hawks Monday night at Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie.
Originally scheduled for Friday the game was moved to Saturday before being moved to Waxahachie on Monday due to the snow.
With all the changes the Hawks topped the Indians 6-0 while the Lady Hawks defeated the Lady Indians 2-1 in varsity action.
The win improved the Hawks to 12-0 on the season and 2-0 in District 28-4A play. Waxahachie dropped to 4-8-3 on the season and 0-2 in district. The Indians play tonight at home against Lancaster.
In the girls’ game Red Oak scored late in the first to go into the half ahead 1-0.
Red Oak scored quick in the second half but WHS kept fighting.
Halfway in the second half a Natalie Kelly corner kick was played off the head of Caroline Clifton to find a goal.
WHS (8-5-3, 1-1) had good performances by Jaycee Hamilton up front, Sara Sanchez and Lindsey Williams across the middle and defense Kelly, Clifton and Amber Swindle.
The Lady Indians return to action tonight at 7:30 at home against Lancaster.
Red Oak and Waxahachie will meet again on March 1 in Red Oak due to Monday’s game in Waxahachie.
