RED OAK – To celebrate the opening of its new athletic facilities, Red Oak ISD will hold a ribbon cutting dedication ceremony Feb. 24 at the complex.
The entire Red Oak community is invited to the event to join in the celebration.
“This is our way of thanking our community for their tremendous support of our students by allowing us to create a first class educational facility for all of our students,” athletic director Mike Burns said.
The event, planned by the district’s administration, athletic department, police, public relations and technology and maintenance will host a number of activities. Free hot dogs and cold drinks will be served at 5 p.m., the ribbon cutting for the tennis courts will be at 6:15, the ribbon cutting for softball will be at 6:30 and the baseball ribbon cutting will be at 7.
“These facilities will be open to our athletic teams at this time,” Burns said. “The other athletic facilities and workout areas will be open at a later date.”
The baseball ceremony will also include a touch of history when the field is re-dedicated to honor a famous Red Oak baseball player.
“As part of the baseball ribbon cutting ceremony, we are re-dedicating the baseball field as Buddy Groom Field,” Burns said. “Mr. Groom is a Red Oak graduate who pitched in the major leagues for 14 years. He will also be in attendance that evening.”
Admission to the softball and baseball games that evening will be free for everyone.
“We look forward to seeing everyone in Red Oak there for this exciting event,” Burns said.
