The Red Oak Hawks moved one step closer to clinching a playoff spot in District 15-4A and with a 59-46 win against West Mesquite on Tuesday are helping country rivals Waxahachie do the same.
Red Oak (18-9, 9-4) is in third place behind Ennis (12-1) and Lancaster (11-3) with three games to play in the regular season and needs to just win two more to assure a playoff berth.
Facing a West Mesquite team fighting for the fourth and final playoff position in district with Waxahachie, the Hawks started slow but rallied back strong to win by double digits.
West Mesquite (16-11, 7-6) took a 16-8 lead after one period before the Hawks rallied back in the second and outscored the Wranglers 20-10 to take a 28-26 halftime lead.
Sophomore Jeremiah Gaines led the way with 18 points while Brandon Hebert scored 14 and Brandon Brady scored 12.
Lady Hawks fall by 10
With a playoff spot secured the Lady Hawks dropped a District 15-4A game to West Mesquite 67-57 on Tuesday. Red Oak (17-13, 10-5) will enter the postseason as the No. 4 team from 15-4A.
West Mesquite, the districtís second place team, outscored the Lady Hawks in three periods after jumping out to a 20-15 lead.
Kiona Robinson led Red Oak with 23 points while Jamie Conkle added nine and Shelby Dixon had eight. Diamond Lockhart had seven points, Taylor McCullough six and Gabby Pena four to round out the scoring.
