Excitement!….is the word that just seems to keep coming through when you talk about the Midlothian football team. Spring football practice began a couple of weeks ago, and the atmosphere is bubbling over with excitement. There is nothing like seeing an athlete having fun at his sport. With every great effort, coaches and players are yelling YEY, jumping up and down, and patting each other on the back. The head coach Robby Clark said, “The atmosphere is filled with great attitude and optimism not only from the coaches, but the boys as well”.

We are all looking forward to a successful year. So many key elements are in place to have a great year for Midlothian football. The varsity will have 9 defensive and 8 offensive returning starters. We have great kids with incredible character stepping up as leaders on and off the field. Coach Clark said, "We have had a year to see what our boys can do. We know what they are capable of and can better match their abilities with the best position to help the team. A good example is Caleb McEachern. Caleb played outside line backer last year then moved to running back towards the end of the season. Caleb then became a great running back and helped us tremendously."

Our defense has had a great spring in practice and is ready to roll! Alterations have been made to the offense this year and we are expecting great things with this new offensive strategy. But, the offense needs a certain number of repetitions to iron out the wrinkles and correct the mistakes. But, it is coming together and we are very excited and sure of their capabilities. The boys are pretty healthy with only a few bumps and bruises. We do regret that our backup line backer, Ben Shipman, will be out for the season with an ACL torn in the knee. We do expect his return next off season to prepare for 2008.

These boys have put a tremendous amount of work and time in on the off season. Coach Clark implemented a new work out program shortly after he and his coaching staff arrived. As I am sure many parents will attest to clothing bills and grocery bills, these boys have increased in strength, agility, speed and size. The work ethic of the coaching staff and the players is to be admired. Great things are being taught…. character, hard work, team work and selfless sacrifice for the betterment of the team. What a winning formula!!

Let us show you our winning formula in our Midlothian High School Spring Football Game 2007. We hope the community will come out and show your support of Midlothian football program.
