Mother Nature must like suspense.
Waxahachie was scheduled to host Midlothian in a full slate of basketball games on Tuesday night but, winter weather conditions forced the games to be moved to today.
Both varsity teams for each school look to get back into the win column tonight following heart-breaking losses on Friday.
The Indians fell to Hewitt Midway, 38-37, on Friday while the Panthers lost to Waco, 59-56.
The Lady Indians fell to No. 4 Hewitt Midway, 45-30, and the Lady Panthers lost to No. 20 Waco, 52-41.
In subvarsity action, the junior varsity Lady Indians enter tonight’s game riding a four-game winning streak while the JV Indians seek a win after Friday’s loss.
The varsity Panthers entered tonight’s game with a 7-16 overall record and a 0-7 district record.
The Panthers will need to win the majority of their remaining games this season in hopes of securing one of four playoff spots.
Waxahachie finished the first half of district play in second place with a 5-2 district record and a 7-17 overall record.
The Indians appear to be in the driver’s seat for a playoff spot as they are tied for second place in district.
Both varsity girls’ teams have four games remaining after tonight and are on opposite ends of the playoff outlook.
Waxahachie is currently in the fourth spot in district with a 5-4 record. Overall the Lady Indians are 19-11 on the season.
The Lady Panthers are 1-8 in district play with an overall record of 3-22.
Waxahachie is tied for fourth place with Cleburne. Cleburne holds a slight advantage over the Lady Indians as they defeated Waxahachie earlier this season in Waxahachie.
Midlothian needs to win out to secure a playoff spot while the Lady Indians must beat the teams they have already beaten once this season and beat Cleburne for a playoff spot.
Games begin tonight at five in the J.W. Williams and George Solis Gym.
The junior varsity girls will play in the Solis Gym while the JV boys will play in the Williams Gym at five.
At 6:30 p.m. the Lady Indians will tip off against the Lady Panthers in the Solis Gym. In the Williams Gym, the freshman Indians will host the freshman Panthers.
The final game of the evening will pit the varsity Indians against the Panthers at 8 p.m. in the Solis Gym.
As of press time today the games were still scheduled. Check with school officials to make sure Mother Nature did not stike again.
