WACO – The Midlothian Lady Panthers blasted the Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs, 7-0, on a hot and muggy Saturday afternoon in a Class 4A bi-district game. The game, originally scheduled for Friday evening, was postponed until Saturday due to wet field conditions.

Midlothian improved to 24-8 on the season; Cove ends its season at 14-15.

Lindsay Fallen, who improved her pitching record to 17-7, was unsolvable for the Copperas Cove hitters as the senior pitched a complete game, no-hit shutout.

Fallen was masterful with 14 strikeouts and allowed only one line drive in the game, an easy out to left field.

“I really trust my defense,” Fallen said. “We are playing together. There is always some room for improvement, but we are doing well.”

Offensively, the Lady Panthers put up 13 hits.

Kaydee Bland, batting in the seventh slot, had a 4-for-4 day with a pair of singles and doubles.

The top of the Lady Panthers order accounted for seven hits.

Leadoff hitter Hannah Miller had a double and a single in three trips to the plate. Fallen (2-for-3) had a pair of singles. Jade Laurence (2-for-3) had a pair of singles and two RBI. Brittany Carruthers had only one hit, but it was a three-run homer in the seventh to put the game completely out of reach for the Lady Dawgs.

Teammates Alyce Trevino and Whitney Bankston each had singles for the winning team.

Midlothian struck for two runs in the first inning and one in the fifth before adding four in the top of the seventh.

The Lady Panthers will play District 14-4A champ Seagoville (13-6), which received a bye in the first round.

Seagoville is loaded as Kayle Krause (.612) and Samantha Byram (.600) lead the Lady Dragons in hitting. Renee Estes (.467), Shania Odom (.435) and Cassie Haney (.423) all are very good at the plate as well. The rest of the lineup strokes the ball well with Shelby Griffin (.359), Ashley Smith (.345), Monica Fruin (.342) and Jasmine Govea (.333) all giving pitchers fits.

Seagoville’s leading pitcher is Krause with an 11-3 record. In 61 innings she has given up 74 hits, recorded 94 strikeouts and allowed 39 earned runs for a 3.33 ERA.

The Lady Dragons like to run. Smith (12), Krause (9), Estes (7), Byram (5), Odom (4) and Govea (3) are all able to steal bases.

The game with Seagoville will be a repeat of the second round of the 2007 playoffs when Midlothian won the single playoff game.

In that game Fallen had a no-hitter.

With TAKS testing taking place this week the area round games have yet to be decided as to time and place.
