The Waxahachie Indian junior varsity football teams took on Flower Mound Marcus Thursday night at T.C. Wilemon football stadium in Waxahachie.
The JV white team lost 38-0 in its season debut against a Marcus team that had plenty of depth. Braden Henry had 16 yards rushing and Donte Blakemore ended the game with 25 yards on the ground for Waxahachie.
The JV green team managed to score a couple times, but it was not enough as Marcus rolled to a 58-18 win.
Waxahachie was led by the rushing of Ledarron Crawford who had 209 yards and three touchdowns.
Two of his three scores went for big yards. One, the top play of the night, went for 93 yards, while a second touchdown was for 85 yards as Crawford’s game-breaking abilities were on display.
Crawford also caught a screen pass from Jake Villarreal and carried it in from 15 yards out.
Villarreal practiced with the varsity during two-a-days and took a majority of the snaps in the intersquad scrimmage. He also took part in the varsity scrimmage against Mansfield Legacy last week before coaches decided they wanted him to get regular playing time on the junior varsity.
With the varsity having two senior quarterbacks this season, Villarreal is on pace to be the varsity signal caller next year.
While Lumpkins Stadium continues its renovation, the junior varsity Indians will continue to play their home games at Wilemon Stadium. The Indians will host Dallas Carter this Thursday with action starting at 5:30 p.m.
There is a strong chance the Indians will return to Lumpkins on Sept. 15 against Terrell but the most-likely date is Sept. 29.
