The 2007-08 Alvarado High School varsity and junior varsity cheerleader teams traveled to Stephenville June 17-20 to attend Tarleton State University’s NCA cheer camp.

Both teams brought home a spirit stick for their hard work.

Eight members of the junior varsity team were nominated to tryout for All-American.

Ashley Cullison and Magan Johnson made the 2007 All-American Cheer team.

All 15 members of the varsity team were nominated to try out for the honor. Bonnie Gibson, Emma Cannon, Jordan Grimes, Bianca Lowery and Taylor Lamb won All-American honors.

Courtney Phillips won the All-American Mascot title and the 2007 Most Improved Mascot award as well.

Taylor Lamb, senior captain, won the Top NCA Cheerleader Award, given to the most outstanding cheerleader at the camp. Lamb was the first cheerleader from Alvarado to win this honor.

The varsity team also won a Technical Excellence Award, a Stunt Smart award and a bid to Nationals.

The junior varsity team also won a Stunt Smart award and a bid to Nationals.

The Indian cheerleaders will be hosting a Mini Cheer camp July 23-26 at the Alvarado Jr. High School campus. There will be new cheers and chants, cheer dance, jumps and stunts. The cost is $25, which includes a camp t-shirt. The camp will be from 9-11:30 am and students in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Monday. July 23.

This is the main fund-raiser for the Indian cheerleaders.

The group uses the money to buy paint, paper, poms and spirit items throughout the school year.
