RED OAK – Life School Red Oak PTO recently sponsored its second annual Race for Education.

Students solicited sponsorships from family and friends and with the assistance of teachers and volunteers more than 16,000 mailers were sent.

Students were eligible for prizes based on the number of mailers turned in. They received a free snack card (five mailers), homework pass (10 mailers) and free dress day card (15 mailers). Also, for every 10 mailers turned in, students were entered in a drawing for an iPod Touch (one for each campus) and a grand prize of a Compaq laptop computer.

Race Day saw students walking or jogging on a 1/2-mile track for 30 minutes. After the race, students received refreshments and a chance to dunk a coach in a dunking booth or to toss a sponge at school administration. Other activities included a train ride around the campus, a bungee run, rock climbing, three giant obstacle courses and a petting zoo.

“The Race for Education was a huge success,” a school spokesman said. “Students had a great time and the fundraiser benefited the school. As of Race Day, over $56,000 in donations had been collected with contributions being accepted through the end of the school year. Life School appreciates PTO members who worked tirelessly to coordinate the event and parents, family, and friends who volunteered their time and resources.”
