The SAGU Lion volleyball team went into Saturday looking to complete a six-game, three day sprint with two games in Oklahoma City.
That six game total was reduced to five and only one game on Saturday when St. Gregory’s University cancelled the second match.
Thus the Lady Lions would get a head start coming after they played Mid-American Christian University at 1 p.m.
And play to the end they did.
Mid-America’s Lady Evangels quickly woke-up the Lady Lions by taking games one and two of the match by the scores of 25-30 and 23-30.
With its’ back against the wall, SAGU mounted a rally that would win the next two games, 30-22 and 30-23.
This was the first time this year the Lady Lions had rallied back after losing the first two games and also the first time SAGU and their opponent would go the fifth game of a match.
Then by forcing many Mid-American errors, the Lady Lions decidedly won the last game 15-8 for its 12th win of the season.
Kelani Keoho had 20 kills. this match while teammate Brittani Toole
grabbed 11 of her own. Assist guru Rachel Brown tacked on 38 more to pass
the 500 mark for the season.
With St. Gregory's canceling, the Lady Lions did not get to play their sixth
game in three day, moving SAGU to 3-2 on this three day five-game run.
Next for the Lady Lions will be a trip out west to Hobbs, NM and a Friday
game against College of the Southwest.
