Home sweet home
Trinity Valley Community College has become home away from home for the Waxahachie Lady Indians over the last two years. Waxahachie defeated bitter-rival Waco there a year ago to advance to the regional tournament. This season WHS is 2-0 in playoff games at TVCC.
In both playoff games at TVCC this year Waxahachie coach Dawn Hilburn announced the players for both teams while giving Waxahachie players the “hometown” feel in the intros.
WHS senior Victoria Bell sang the national anthem Wednesday in front of about 200 Waxahachie fans. WHS outnumbered Longview fans about 2-to-1.
Revenge is sweet
The Longview Lobos knocked the Indians out of the football playoffs in the regional quarterfinals. The Lady Indians served sweet revenge on Wednesday by holding Longview to its lowest scoring total of the season en route to knocking the No. 9 team in state out of the postseason.
Brittanya Sterns, a junior post for Waxahachie, is the sister of Waxahachie football player Jamison Sterns and was very excited to get the win over Longview.
Waxahachie’s last trip to state was when it won the 2005-06 state championship. Overall the Lady Indians have made two appearances in the state tournament. This year the state tournament will be held March 4-6 at U.T. Austin’s Frank Erwin Center. A look back at the 05-06 state championship team will be published in Sunday’s Daily Light.
