HAMILTON – The Italy Lady Gladiators (18-12) ended their season Friday night with a loss to the Mason Cowgirls (23-11). Mason advanced to the regional quarterfinals with the 45-24 win.

 The game remained scoreless until 4:15 in the first when Mason jumped on the scoreboard with a lay up. The Cowgirls went on a 6-0 run when Jameka Copeland hit a baseline jumper for Italy‘s only points of the quarter. When the period ended, Mason was on top 10-2.

In the second quarter Mason outscored Italy 11-3. Megan Richards hit a long 3-pointer to drop in Italy’s only points.

The Lady Gladiators came alive in the third quarter on defense and held the Cowgirls to only nine points, but Italy could not overcome the deficit from the first half. Copeland dropped in five and Megan Richards and Jaleecia Fleming added two points each. Going into the final period, Mason had a comfortable 30-14 lead.

Italy’s offense added 10 points in the final period, but Mason dropped in 15 to seal the win.

Copeland was high point for Italy with nine, followed by M. Richards with five.
