Before improving to 1-0 in district with a sweep of Ennis Tuesday, the Waxahachie Lady Indian junior varsity team claimed the Crandall Tournament championship last Saturday.
Waxahachie opened pool play Thursday, Aug. 18 with a 25-14, 25-19 win against Community before defeating the Midlothian “B” team 25-10, 25-11.
Pool play success continued for Waxahachie as it defeated Farmersville 25-12, 25-14 before topping host Crandall 25-10, 25-15.
In bracket play on Saturday the Lady Indians opened with a 25-11, 25-14 win against Royce City before defeating Midlothian 25-17, 25-20.
In the championship match the Lady Indians faced Lovejoy. Last season Lovejoy’s varsity won the Class 3A state championship. Lovejoy proved to be the toughest test of the tournament as it forced the match to go three sets, but in the end it was Waxahachie that was named the best team with a 23-25, 25-17, 25-16 victory.
The Lady Indians will resume district play on Tuesday with a 5:30 p.m. home match against Forney.
