The Waxahachie Indian junior varsity baseball team improved to 12-1 on the young season and 2-0 in district play with an 8-3 win at Red Oak on Wednesday.
Waxahachie jumped on the board early with two runs in the first before Red Oak cut the lead to one heading into the third.
In the third the Indians added four runs to take a 6-1 lead before the Hawks answered with one run in the bottom half of the inning.
Waxahachie tacked on two runs in the fourth, Red Oak answered with one before the scoring ran dry the rest of the game.
The Indians out hit Red Oak 13-7 and were led by Hayden Howell and Austin Clark.
Howell was 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base while Clark was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Micah Lett was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs scored while John Castellanos was 2-for-3 with two RBI, a run scored and a walk.
Blake Gonzales, Kolton Smith and Travis Stroope all had one hit while Gonzales stole two bases.
Stroope picked up the win on the mound, going five innings and striking out three. Jaime Ortiz pitched the final two innings and allowed one hit while striking out two.
Waxahachie will look to make it 4-0 in district play with a double header scheduled for noon Saturday at Richards Park against Forney. Waxahachie defeated Forney 6-4 earlier this season in tournament play.
